2015 | Highlights & Lessons

Can you believe we’re so close to the end of the year? Each year seems to be going by quicker and quicker.

I’ve loved every part of this year and I think it’s because a lot has changed this year.

My 2015 Highlights

Chopping My Hair Off One of the first things I did this year was chop my hair off. It was literally a moment of insanity. I’m glad I did it because it was a nice change and I actually really did like it. I just complained a lot when it got to an awkward length when it was growing back (sorry to everyone that had to listen to me).

21 Even though 21 is meant to be a big birthday, each birthday I never really feel any different. This year my family and friends went above an beyond to make it such a great birthday.

Blog Changes In February of this year, I properly launched my blog across all social media because I decided that I really did want my blog to grow. Although back then I wasn’t sonamlotay.com , I was iconicbysl.com. I wanted to change my domain name as a personal branding thing and honestly it was for the better.

Collaboration I did my first collaboration this year which was so much fun to do! I can’t wait to do more collaborations next year.

First Blogging Event  I went to my first blogging event this year. It was so much fun and I got to meet so many other lovely inspiring ladies. I hope to attend more blogging events next year.

Graduating University After 3 years I finally graduated with a degree in Accounting and Finance so the sleepless nights were definitely worth it. I’m doing a postgraduate study in law at a different university which is something I had been planning do to since before I even started my first degree (a lot people don’t know this).

Holiday with the girls It can be hard to synchronise meeting up with your friends, especially when you’re all studying at different parts of the country. This year we managed to squeeze in a last minute trip to Lanzarote for a few days. It was such a beautiful place, and we all got to finally spend some time with each other.

Paris I also managed to squeeze in a weekend in Paris as an after exam treat – what a beautiful city!

Shanghai, China  For those of you who follow me on Snapchat and Instagram, you’ll know that over the summer break I spent a few months in China. I was on an internship and whilst I was out there, I got a chance to meet new people, explore a completely new country and learn a lot about a different culture and way of life. If you had asked me a year ago what I planned to do during 2015 China would’ve never been on my list of plans for the year. It was honestly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.

Things 2015 Taught Me

“Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck” – Something that took me pretty much the whole year to realise.

“Travel. As much as you can. As far as you can. As long as you can” – You’ll honestly have experiences that you’ll never forget.

Don’t worry about anything you can’t change – What is the point about worrying something that you can’t change or may even never happen. I remember thinking that I had failed one particular exam in my final year and was so upset. When I got my results I was shocked at how well I did in that exam, so the worrying was for nothing.

“Don’t ever think that the world owes you anything, because it doesn’t. The world doesn’t owe you a thing.” – I heard this quote in the advert for Joy the Movie, the one with Jennifer Lawrence. It really stuck with me because my only really started growing when I actually spent more time on it. If you want something you have to go for it.

Let me know what your 2015 highlights were and if there was anything you learnt this year
