It seems like its been a while since I posted my resolutions but I’m finally back with a new post and I’m hoping to post more regularly. Today’s post is going to be a review based on two products I’ve been using lately which are the Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation Stick and the Step 1 Mattifying Primer.
I had been really wanting to try the Make Up For Ever foundations after seeing it being constantly raved about on social media. I originally wanted to get the liquid foundation but I saw a YouTube video with someone applying liquid on half of the face and the stick on the other and decided that I really liked the radiant finish that the stick gave.
The shade I got in the foundation was Y405 which I believe in the old formula of the foundations is shade 153. I found that this shade was near enough a perfect match but sometimes it can look slightly warm. So I would recommend to someone who thinks they are close to my shade but may be slightly lighter, go for the shade down because you can always warm it up with bronzer.
The formula itself is a creamy which I am currently using a beauty blender to blend it out. I would like to try a flat top foundation brush as I think this would help really work the product into the skin because it is really full coverage.
In terms of longevity for me personally it got quite oily around my t-zone after about 5/6 hours even when I used the mattifying primer AND a setting power. This is such a shame since my Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation and Mac Studio Fix last for atleast 8 hours and even then they both look relatively okay. I did however try the Make Up Stick with the Estee Lauder Double and this combination was so lovely and it really did help the foundation last for a lot longer.
In my opinion I really do like the finish and the coverage of this foundation but for those with oily combination skin I would still recommend this but if it was mixed with something else because It will just get really oily in certain places.
This is another product that I really wanted to try after watching almost every beauty guru on YouTube use and rave about.
The first time I used this primer I was a bit surprised by the texture. It was really waxy and just really hard to work with. I feel like it takes a long time to massage into the skin and I needed to use a lot. I can see myself going through the tube quite quickly.
In all honestly I didn’t see any difference or advantage of using this primer. I much prefer using my Tea Tree Pore Minimiser because when I don’t use that I do notice the difference with my make up.
I mainly brought this to go under the Ultra HD Stick because I had a feeling that the cream formula of the stick may need a mattifying primer to go underneath.
There are 9 primers in this range I believe so I really would like to try the other ones out to see if they work better for my skin.
If you have tried any of these products let me know what you think of them. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
