For the longest time, I’ve been lusting over the Colourpop liquid lipsticks. They have such a wide colour selection and are so affordable retailing for only $6. You can also win me over with cute packaging, so as you can imagine i’m obsessed with the white packaging with holographic writing. Colourpop currently don’t ship to the UK, however, I’ve seen many blog posts about how you can get them in the UK using another shipping service. For me personally, after all the shipping and tax fees that it seemed you had pay, I couldn’t really justify those costs which ultimately took away from the idea of having good quality liquid lipsticks at an affordable price.
I recently came across a company called Lustre Cosmetics, who as well as Colourpop sell brands such as LA Girl cosmetics, NYX, Kat Von D, Anastasia and many other brands. Not only was I excited at the range of brands they have, but I only had to pay £3.99 for standard delivery as they are a UK based company and my order came within a couple of days!
I chose 4 lip products in total; 3 liquid lipsticks in the shades LAX, Chilly Chilli and Bumble, and 1 lip pencil in the shade Taurus.
I own a bunch of liquid lipsticks from various brands and I think these are my favourite in terms of the formula. Although they are “ultra matte” they don’t have that complete matte finish, which I personally like because it just makes it more comfortable and doesn’t give your lips that undesirable cracked looked. I noticed that the formula was consistent across the shades which I think you would expect, but in my NYX Lingerie liquid lipstick review, I mentioned that the darker shade needed to be built up before it gave that bold, opaque look, whereas this is not the case with these Colourpop liquid lipsticks.
The applicator is a standard applicator, but in terms of the actual application, I found it quite easy to apply as it wasn’t runny, therefore I was able to apply it smoothly. It is a long wearing lipstick so you can wear it for hours and eat and drink normally without it coming off. I never have to reapply them once I’m out which is great because I think liquid lipsticks are generally more difficult to apply when you’re out and about as opposed to a normal lipstick.
As I mentioned, the shade range is quite extensive, so I struggled choosing the ones I wanted. I do love each of the shades I picked, but they are all slightly different to what I was expecting because they don’t look like the same when swatched or applied. I guess this is just a downfall of online shopping for make up because you don’t always know what you’re going to get.
To begin with, I went for a vampy shade called ‘LAX’. Lately I’ve been shying away from vampy colours, but LAX is one of the shades that I’ve had my eye on for ages so I knew it was one that I was going to get. It is a very bold lip colour, so I know it won’t be everyone’s first choice, but it is perfect for a night out.
The next shade I went for was Chilly Chilli, and as you can imagine I thought it was going to be a lot peachier than it was. I was slightly taken back by it having purple undertones, and I was a little bit disappointed when I wore it because it was exactly like a lip colour I already own. It’s still a really nice shade though so I will be using this a lot, and I think it will suit a lot of different skin tones.
Finally, the last shade in the liquid lipsticks I picked up was Bumble which is my favourite out of the 3. I don’t tend to go for very pink lipsticks as I don’t think they suit me, but I thought this was the right shade for me without it being too pink. This shade is perfect for the summer months!
I picked up the lip pencil ‘Taurus’ after seeing it in a Youtube video, and immediately knew I had to get it. Of course, it looked completely different on the person in the video, and on me it looked like the exact dupe of Mac ‘Spice’ lip liner, which I already own two of. The lip liners however, are really impressive as they are so creamy and pigmented, because of this I am able to wear it by itself without it looking dry.
Overall, I am really impressed with Colourpop liquid lipsticks and I’ll definitely be purchasing more from the brand, especially now they are more accessible.
