After finding out about the Too Faced counter in Debenhams on Oxford Street, I couldn’t wait to pick a few things up that I’ve been wanting to try. At the top of my list was the Born This Way Foundation and the Better Than Sex Mascara. They had an offer on the day that I went so I got the melted chocolate lipstick as well and they gave me a Too Faced make up bag which contained another melted lipstick and a travel sized born this way macara.
I have oily/combination skin and I’ve seen mixed reviews on this foundation for my skin type, so I was a bit hesitant. When the beauty assistant tried it on me for a shade match, I must admit I was really not that impressed with the formula and coverage(I had however been out shopping all day and my make up was fading), but the shade match was perfect. I have the shade Sand (NC37 for reference) and I don’t really own a foundation that matches my skin tone as well as this. I wanted to get this and I wanted to make it work for me.
The foundation claims to be an oil free foundation infused with:
- “Coconut water – to deliciously replenish skin’s moisture levels
- Alpine Rose – to brighten skin’s appearance and promote elasticity
- Hyaluronic acid – for a smoother, more youthful experience”
Just from reading these claims, who wouldn’t want to try this foundation?
The first time I tried it on at home by myself, I tried it on using a beauty blender. I was a bit disappointed because I felt that it just didn’t sit right on my face and although it says that it’s aim to provide a natural, radiant coverage which you could build up, I felt that the coverage was pretty sheer. I was gutted that I had forked out £30 for yet another foundation that just didn’t work for me.
The shade match was just too perfect for me, so the second time I tried it I used a buffing brush instead. Just by changing what I used to apply the foundation with, I found it made such a big difference to the way the foundation looked, and I can now honestly say that this is my go holy grail foundation and I’ve never received as many compliments on my skin then I have when using this foundation. Using a buffing brush really helped with the coverage, and I’d say that it’s medium coverage foundation. I have deep acne scaring so I do have to spot conceal with a thick concealer underneath but I prefer having to do that and use a lightweight foundation around the rest of my face. It did notice it cling slightly to the dry patches around my nose but that was only after a few hours so just make sure you exfoliate. I think you can get a good 8-10 hour wear on this foundation and it really does look natural and radiant. Because it is a radiant looking foundation, if you’re oily, I would recommend using a mattifying primer underneath. I swear by the Body Shop Pore Minimiser, and use this underneath my foundation.
Overall, I would recommend this foundation as it has quickly become one of my favourites.
Everyone I know that has this raves about this, and it seems to be a cult youtuber favourite. I’m always a bit skeptical when things are highly rav because it doesn’t live up to my expectations. I’ve been continuously wearing this for the past few weeks and feel like it really does live up to the hype. It lengthens and volumises my lashes and it looks as though I’m wearing lashes. I can achieve that look straight away by using only one layer. The brush is “hour glass-shaped” which helps to get to the bottom of the lashes. I picked up the original formula as I’ve heard that the newer waterproof formula isn’t as good. In my opinion I don’t think you need this mascara to be waterproof unless you’re actually going into water as it does not smudge and lasts all day.
Last year whilst I was in Paris, I picked up my Melted Fig in my Sephora Haul. It quickly became one of my favourite lipsticks in terms of shade and formula, and made its way into my Top 5 Autumn Lip Shades this year. This time round I picked up two more shades and once again I wasn’t disappointed;
Chihuahua (dusty mauve)
Metallic Frozen Hot Chocolate (shimmery brown)
