Why I Almost Quit Blogging

I can’t believe it’s been over a month since my last blog post. The truth is, I almost quit blogging.

Last month when my domain was about to expire, and I was ready to let it. Over the past couple of months i’ve become busier with my full time job that it just didn’t seem like a priority to me. I was no longer enjoying the content I was posting and it quite honestly posting twice a week had become a chore. Blogging is not as not as easy as just writing some text and hitting publish; it’s taking pictures, editing them, scheduling tweets. The standard has become so high and it’s amazing to see the work of so many creative, talented people, but I just felt like I couldn’t keep up.

I’m always torn between blogging being a hobby and actually wanting to become quite successful in the blogging industry.  I started blogging because I enjoyed it, and I enjoyed sharing my love of beauty and fashion. However, I also want my blog to grow in terms of audience. When I graduated university and hadn’t yet started working, I dedicated a lot of time to my blog and noticed it grow, but recently it has become a struggle to maintain it.

Lately, i’ve found myself becoming more and more unsocial on social media. I have been really put off by the following to unfollow, algorithms and just the general negativity in the blogosphere. However, I don’t want this to overshadow my love for  blogging because I get to talk about the things i’m interested in, express myself and most importantly get to know making friends that share those interests.

In a recent article, it was quoted that “blogging is an oversaturated industry”, and i agree that the blogging industry is saturated, so sometimes I feel like i’m working towards a goal thats unobtainable. Whilst i agree on this point, I remind myself like any other profession out there, there is room for everyone if you’re willing to put in hard work. Most importantly, I like supporting other bloggers and seeing them do well. So now I’m going to stop making excuses for not posting, start planning content in advance, interact more and stop feeling guilty for not posting.

I hope you enjoyed this personal post from me, probably my most personal one yet. I’m happy to say that after a month off, I feel inspired and motivated to create content that I hope I’m proud of, and hope you guys will love it too.

I would love to know your thoughts. Have you ever felt the same way?

I totally get where you are coming from. I’ve had this feeling more than once. I take a break and then come back, but now instead of wanting to quit when things get rough I push though even if my content isn’t the best. At least I know I’m trying. I also agree that the standard is super high for bloggers now and days. Also I wanted to know if you would like to collaborate again? The last one was super fun!

I noticed that you took a break and now your content is on fire! Like you I don’t want to quit I just want to keep going but it does play on my mind a lot. Ofcourse I would love to collaborate again! Email or DM on twitter!

This is a blog post I relate to on a deep, personal level! It’s definitely something I’ve considered lately. Like you, my life got busier, and blogging had to sit on a backburner for a little while. Now I’m ready–and able–to bring it back, and I’m terrified. I’ve definitely thought of leaving without an explanation, even though this is something I thoroughly enjoy. I’m glad you’ve been able to find your way back to blogging, though! Fingers crossed I’ll soon follow suite. 🙂

Thank you for reading! I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels like this, I think having a break seems to have done both of us some good. Don’t be afraid to get back out there!

  3. June 22, 2017 / 12:04 pm

This is so understandable. I can relate to you so much. Recently, I just haven’t found the time nor inspiration for blogging because it can take quite a lot of effort! This was nice to read and I look forward to your new upcoming, exciting blog posts! xx

    • June 22, 2017 / 12:34 pm

I was a bit hesitant to post this but I’m glad that other people are able to relate. Thank you so much for reading x

Glad you decided to keep at it. It would be a shame to be turned off something you once enjoyed so much. I went through this a bit when I first tried to set up my blog because I didn’t have the knowledge or experience just the idea. It was swimming against the current big time so I did end up leaving it for a while before I had even launched the blog but then luckily went back to it and I’m so glad I did 🙂

There are so so many amazing bloggers I definitely feel torn between wanting to just blog for fun and wanting to be successful and grow my audience. Glad you’re feeling a bit more creative and excited about blogging now though 🙂 xo

I just started blogging a couple weeks ago and I’m already feeling like my efforts are all for nothing sometimes. But this is my dream, so I’m willing to keep trying as long as I’m able to. This post was really eye-opening, thank you. x

Hope things pick up for you. I also feel the same sometimes!

Glad you’re back and have decided to carry on blogging! I can totally relate you what you said and agree it can feel like your working towards something thats unachieveable because there are so many other bloggers going for the same goal! It’s hard sometimes because there are so many bloggers and a lot of the time I do worry I can’t ever compete, but I love blogging so always carry on. I just try not to focus so much on stats and followers anymore and just enjoy it. Like you said if you work hard then it doesn’t matter how many other bloggers their are, there is room for everyone x

I totally understand what you’re saying. I haven’t really taken off as i find the blogging world a really tough world to crack! Thank you for your honesty and i look forward to reading your blog more.

Fabulous post because it’s honest. It’s hard to crack blogging but you just got to have faith in your content

I can completely see where you’re coming form, I’ve felt this way latley after all the hard work I’m putting in, engaging with people and trying so hard yet I’m seeing hardly any of that back and it makes me wonder if there’s any room for me now. It’s something that I think a lot of us feel and go through but it’s so good you’re not quitting and sticking at it!!

I feel like reading my own story here! These last 2 months I’ve been feeling the exact same thing.. Work and obligations just got in the way and social media just didn’t attract me as it used to… But I’m looking forward to being on holiday and the summer to get back into it 🙂

Great post! I often take time out from blogging because I don’t feel like my content is good enough. I spend weeks perfecting just one post, hit publish and then really struggle to get it seen because there are so many similar bloggers out there. I usually come back feeling refreshed and raring to go though, and I know I’d miss it WAY too much if I ever decided to just quit 🙂

I have only just discovered your blog so I’m glad you didn’t quit! Despite what you say, your photographs are really well taken and the standard of your blog is very high imo!

Hi Sonam, I have just found your blog on twitter and I can totally relate to this post that you have written. I have to take time off every now and then due to health reasons, and sometimes I feel like my blog isn’t as good as anyone else’s. I started my original blog many years ago and then after a long long break, I created a new one. It is very hard to not put yourself down or reach out to fellow bloggers as it’s all changed. There’s lots of new bloggers on the scene and everyone has ‘upped their game’. I love reading different bloggers work and interacting with one another. I don’t think my blog is the best but I’m always trying to learn how to make it better. There is room for all of us.
I can’t wait to read more of your blog as it’s all presented so lovely, professionally and the photos are stunning. So glad you haven’t quit or I wouldn’t have discovered you or your blog. ❤️

Hi Katie, first of all thank you for taking the time to even read my blog. Secondly, I honestly don’t know what to say. This is one of the most nicest, most thoughtful comments I have ever received on my blog and I am so grateful for it. It’s so incredibly hard not to get lost amongst so many talented people, but if just one person can take away something positive from here thats more than enough, and like you I am trying to learn how to make it better with each new post.

I wish you the best of luck and success with your blog x

When I saw the title of this article I had to read it because I am feeling the same way. There’s so much competition out there in a blogging world and the follow to unfollow is totally disturbing! I had to stop and remind myself why I started blogging a year ago. It was a way to express myself it’s a healthy way . I want to grow my blog as well. Anyway congrats to you for opening up to us and sharing that your real person with real feelings and thoughts just like everyone else. Thank you!

I think a lot of bloggers have all been very much feeling the same recently, it’s such a hard task balancing blogging and also another career. Not only this but getting your foot in the door within blogging is ridiculously hard and sometimes can get quite disheartening – I’m glad you’ve rekindled your love for it though, and I look forward to reading more of your posts! x
